Simple Loot Council — Feature Guide

Simple Loot Council (SLC) runs loot council voting for WoW retail 12.1.0 (Midnight), synced live across every raider's client. Retail has no master looter, so the council votes on items sitting in a raider's bags during the 2-hour trade window; the loot master awards, and the holder trades the item across.

Beta SLC is in beta as of 0.40.0. Every participant needs the addon; players without it still show up in the council table, they just never answer.

Getting started

  1. Install it. With WowUp: Get Addons → Install from URL → paste https://github.com/SimpleLootCouncil/SimpleLootCouncil-Beta. WowUp keeps it updated. By hand: download the zip from the latest release and unzip the SimpleLootCouncil folder into World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns.
  2. /reload in game. No client restart is needed, even for a first install.
  3. Type /slc to open settings. /glc works as an alias for every command.
  4. The group leader runs loot by default. Hand it to someone else with /slc lootmaster Name-Realm.
  5. Add your council: /slc council add Name-Realm, or tick guild ranks under Council by guild rank in settings.
  6. Try it solo first: /slc test 6 opens a simulated run with six items so you can see every window.
If WowUp says Addon Installation Failed, go to Options → Addons and clear the GitHub Personal Access Token field, then try again.

No library dependencies. Optional integrations: WowUtils (wishlist and sim columns), SimulationCraft (profile export), RCLootCouncil / Loothing (history import). Disable RCLootCouncil's own looting if you run the SLC funnel - the two conflict.

How a loot run works

A run goes from the boss kill to a completed trade in seven steps, and every step is shared live with the group.

  1. Opt in. On entering a raid, the loot master is asked "Use Simple Loot Council for this raid?". Raiders are then asked whether to take part. Nobody is asked anything until the loot master says yes.
  2. Collect. With the optional group-loot funnel on, the loot master rolls Need and participating raiders pass, so loot lands in one pair of bags. Without it, raiders keep what they win and the council still votes on it.
  3. Stage. The loot master queues items privately in the Loot Queue (/slc queue), from their own bags or, if enabled, council members' bags. Staging opens nothing on anyone else's screen.
  4. Start. Start run sends the items to the group. Every raider gets the Loot Response window; the council gets the Loot Council table. Items can be added to a run in progress.
  5. Respond. Raiders pick a response (Mainspec, Offspec, Transmog by default, all configurable), add an optional note, or pass. Unusable items can auto-pass.
  6. Vote and award. The council votes; the loot master awards. Awards can go to a player or "for a reason" (disenchant, guild bank, free).
  7. Trade. Whoever holds the item sees it in Loot to Trade. Opening a trade with the winner fills the window automatically; you press Trade. The award is marked delivered only once the item has actually changed hands.

The boss each item dropped from is recorded automatically, from the kill or from the Adventure Guide. Addon messages are blocked during boss encounters and Mythic+, so loot seen mid-fight is queued and sent when the pull ends; normal combat is fine.

For raiders

A raider answers each item in one window and never needs a command.

FeatureWhat it doesCommands
Loot Response windowOne card per item, with its item level, your equipped comparison and the response buttons. Pass is always there./slc response (/slc r) reopens it
NotesAdd up to 64 characters per item, with or without a response. The council sees [+] and reads the note on hover. A half-typed note survives repaints and reloads.-
Session panelA compact overview of your own answers, rolls and awards for the run./slc session (/slc sess)
RollsWhen the council asks, a Roll button appears on the card. Your roll is read from chat by your own client and the loot master's./roll works too
Auto-passPasses for you on items with a definite class or armour restriction, never on a guess. It never overrides an answer you already gave. The note reads Automatic pass: wrong armour type.Settings > Loot handling
Transmog exceptionOptional: never auto-pass on an item that would teach you a new appearance.Settings > Loot handling
Whisper fallbackIf your addon is broken, whisper the loot master: 1 mainspec great upgrade. Button names, first words and custom keywords all match, in any case./slc whisper shows the guide
Group-loot funnelOpt-in. While the loot master is collecting, your client passes on group loot so it lands with them. You are warned in chat whenever it is active./slc funnel toggles it
Auto-joinSkip the "take part?" question in groups that use SLC. You are still told in chat.Settings > Loot handling
Bonus rollsCoin results you win are reported to the loot master and shown as a coined tag beside your name on that item./slc coins
Windows come backThe response window reopens itself after a loading screen, fear or mind control if the game closed it. Closing it yourself keeps it closed.-

For the council

The Loot Council table shows every candidate for every item, and each council member's votes reach everyone within a second. Reopen it any time with /slc vote (/slc v).

Column / featureWhat it shows
Item railEach item with its state: OPEN, AWARDED, MISSING, OWED, REMOVED, plus boss, difficulty and upgrade track
NameClass-coloured candidate, spec, item level, and a coined tag if they bonus-rolled this item
ResponseTheir answer in its button colour, or Waiting, Pass, Auto-pass
UpgradeItem-level change against what they have equipped, and tier-set progress (3/4 set, +2set, +4set)
Wishlist / SimFrom WowUtils, when installed: is it on their list, BiS, and the simulated DPS gain
Note[+] when they wrote one; hover to read it
RollTheir roll, or assign for a generated one
VotesVote count, with Vote / Unvote buttons
Compact / ExpandToggle a denser layout for large raids

Hover a candidate for the council tooltip: their most recent loot, who else has won this item, attendance (nights this season), alt/main link, guild note and officer note (if you can see it), and their equipped item with sockets and average item level.

Voting rules are shared group-wide so a vote means the same thing on every screen:

Rolls: right-click a row or item to ask one player, everyone on a response, or the whole raid to roll; or generate rolls instantly. /slc roll ask, /slc roll random, /slc roll clear do the same for every unawarded item.

Start requests: if the loot master allows it, council members can propose a run from their own queue; the loot master approves or declines.

For the loot master

The loot master stages, starts, awards and ends runs; SLC tracks every item until it is delivered.

FeatureWhat it doesCommands
Loot QueuePrivate staging window. A side panel lists your tradeable items (newest first); click one to queue it, or add all./slc queue (/slc q), /slc additem <link>, /slc bags add <n>|all
Start / end a runStart sends the queue to the group. End keeps the records for re-award; Clear discards staged items (refused mid-run)./slc start, /slc end, /slc clear
Add mid-runItems can join a run already in progress; loot rarely arrives in one batch.Loot Queue or /slc additem
AwardOne click on a candidate's row, with a confirmation. Re-award or undo at any time; undo strikes it from history for everyone.Right-click a row
Award for a reasonDisenchant, Guild bank or Free. Kept out of that player's win count; Free is not recorded at all.Right-click > Award for
BoE routingName one player and one reason for Bind-on-Equip items. Their row shows route -> and the Award button is pre-filled. It never awards by itself.Settings > Loot handling
Remove / restorePull an item out of a run and put it back later.Right-click the item
Held-item checksItems that were equipped, sold, or passed their trade window are flagged MISSING and cannot be awarded. An item still owed from an earlier award shows OWED.-
Loot to TradeEverything you owe, grouped by player and trade range. Open a trade and the items are filled in; you press Trade. Wrong recipients, equipped or vanished items are flagged red and reported to the loot master./slc trades, /slc trade [name], /slc held

Session timerOptional countdown on a run. Display only: it never closes the run or rejects a late answer.Settings > Session
Active / LIVE tagsIn /slc: click Active to turn SLC on or off for the group; click LIVE to open the council window, right-click to end the run./slc on, /slc off
SimulationCraftWith SimC installed, /simc includes the run's items as a gear block to paste into Raidbots./simc

Council setup

The council is a list of players plus any guild ranks you empower, and the group leader's settings are shared with everyone automatically.

FeatureWhat it doesCommands
Council membersAdd or remove by Name-Realm. Absent members show as pending (greyed) until they join; members are kept by character ID, so renames and transfers survive./slc council, /slc council add|remove <Name-Realm>
Council by guild rankTick ranks in settings; everyone at that rank votes, and promotions or demotions apply automatically. Listed after named members.Settings > Loot Council
Loot master delegationThe leader hands loot to someone else. It reverts to the leader whenever the delegate leaves the group./slc lootmaster <Name-Realm>, /slc lootmaster clear (/slc ml)
Start requestsLet council members propose a run for approval, or start runs themselves without approval. Both off by default.Settings > Voting
Council bagsShow each council member's tradeable loot in the Loot Queue under their name, so items they hold can be staged. Off by default.Settings > Voting
Response buttonsRename, recolour, add, delete or reorder the buttons raiders see, and add whisper keywords (e.g. ms).Settings > Response buttons
AltsLink an alt to its main so the council sees the whole history. Realm spelling is forgiving./slc alt <Alt-Realm> <Main-Realm>, /slc alt remove <Alt-Realm>, Settings > Alts
Version checkSee which build everyone runs; you are warned in chat if someone is on a different version./slc version (/slc ver)
Guild-group gateThe funnel only acts in guild groups by default./slc guild

Reliability

A run survives reloads, disconnects and loading screens on any client, including the loot master's.

Testing and reporting bugs

Most of SLC can be tried solo; a real bug report needs the log from every client involved.

Solo checks

With a friend: start a test run, then /reload one client mid-run and check that everything comes back.

Before testing, run /console scriptErrors 1 so Lua errors show on screen. BugSack and BugGrabber help too.

When something goes wrong, send:

  1. /slc log from every affected player, copied out of the window.
  2. /slc dump from the loot master.
  3. What you clicked, and what you expected to happen.

The log is timestamped and survives reloads, so comparing the loot master's with a raider's usually shows which message went missing. After an update, /reload twice before reading the log: the first reload still shows the old build's state.
